The Accidental Londoner on Instagram

I gave up on Facebook sometime ago.  I found myself wasting time flicking through the timelines of 'friends' I barely knew, and finding myself asking whether I truly needed to know whether an ex-colleague had a long day at work (frankly, who hadn't?!), and wondering why I still read the accounts of shopping trips relayed by someone with whom I went to school a hundred years ago which made me want to scream with boredom.  So I bailed and deactivated my account.  And guess what, I don't miss it at all.

But I do love a pretty picture.  And I don't really mind if people want to share a simple - SINGLE - photo of the cool thing that just arrived in the post or what they had for lunch...I just don't want a detailed description of each ingredient in your "OMG most amazing sandwich EVA!".

So the Accidental Londoner is now on Instagram, sharing photos of favourite London-y things and fun finds around the city.  And there may well be a few random shots from around the world too.  Come follow, and let's swap artfully sepia-ed but slightly blurry pictures of burgers and sunsets and cats!  Yes, there may be the odd snap of a feline lodger or two.  You have been warned...

  1. Welcome, welcome! I should really quit Facebook. I use messenger the most these days (except when i'm abroad and like to show off to the Facebook world - I know I know, despite appearances, i'm not perfect!) One day! xx

    1. Shall need my pro-Instagram pals to show me how it's done, Lou! Have a feeling it could get quite addictive...may have to limit myself to prevent sharing of very boring photos just because they look pretty...

  2. I quit Facebook at the start of the year after a break up (social media really is the devil!) And I didn't miss it one bit - it actually felt so good! It's just people showing us ultimately anyway! Although, I am back on it now, but simply for group messaging with my friends who live abroad!

    1. Eurgh, Facebook is hideous for pouring salt in the wounds of break-ups, isn't it? It does have its uses but can be quite a staggering waste of time when you consider how much it contributes positively to you life.

  3. I agree about Facebook. It's been 5 months for me. One trip back and I thought I'd have a panic attack. All is well with Twitter and Instagram.

    1. Weird isn't it, how a website has the power to make one feel so crappy, Regina? And yet maybe it's just us - millions of others seem to love it, and can barely go an hour without checking in to see what everyone's up to!

  4. Ok, I must confess that I am a social media addict. I still have FB, but it is Twitter I like. You see, I am never alone with Twitter. You will have to explain to me what Instagram is about.

    1. Twitter is great - helpful, entertaining, interesting. Of course there is its darker side too but I know what you mean, Muriel. I think we should get you on Instagram - French Yummy Mummy already snaps some great pics so maybe you just need a new social media addiction to encourage you to take more?
